The wine-growing community Bermersheim von der Höhe is situated in the administrative district of Alzey-Worms. In 786, the village was first mentioned in writing due to a sale of goods to the Lorsch Monastery. During her thorough investigation about Hildegard’s family in the 1940s, the Benedictine nun Marianna Schrader was able to identify Bermsersheim as a possible place of birth, because she assumed that Hildebert of Bermersheim, mentioned in a certificate in 1126, was Hildegard’s father whose first name was handed down. Several donations from Bermersheim to the monastery of Hildegard on the Rupertsberg spoke for this assumption. According to recent research by Josef Heinzelmann, however, Bermersheim can only be considered as a possible additional property of Hildebert of (Nieder-) Hosenbach who was certified as such in 1112 and was considered to be Hildegerd’s father by Heinzelmann. Consequently, Niederhosenbach, the main seat of the family is better considered as Hildegard’s place of birth.
