In the aftermath of the increased worship of Hildegard of Bingen, at the end of the 19th it was decided to build a memorial church close to her first monastery foundation on the Rupertsberg in the present part of the town Bingerbrück, and to consecrate it to her and Saint Rupert. This plan was implemented between 1890 and 1892 according to the plans of Carl Rüdells and Richard Odenthal from Cologne. In memory of the time in which the monastery had been built, the church was built in the Rhenish late Romanesque style in Ashlar Masonry. During the Second World War, the church was heavily damaged and two shrines with relics of Hildegard were destroyed. The mortal remains saved from the ruins are now in a small reliquary. Tapestries, a statute of the Saint and church windows with images of her life and work serve as a reminder of the honoured Abbess of the monastery on the Rupertsberg.
